Description: This print is a reproduction from the series “The Pride of Edo" (c.a. 1818) which consists of 10 prints that compare the famous places of Edo to the women of the area. They all have a window or inset on their upper left side showing a small landscape which corresponds to their title.

In this print, the scene inside the inset shows a crowd of people heading up to a temple. The main scene below insinuates that it is already morning and it is time to get ready and maybe start going to the temple ... as it shows two women on a futon, they seem to be waking up, one of them is already combing her hair, while the second one is still asleep.

Interesting contrast between the blue geometrical patterns of the women’s kimono and the purple and yellow squared pattern of the futon which gives the scene a touch of joy.

There are a few small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) on this print.
